And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. | Mike Muhammad was born Michael C. Williams in September 1966 to Eloise Williams and the Late John C. Williams both of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He was educated in the Philadelphia Public Schools system as a South Philadelphia native, although in High School he traveled everyday from Broad and Erie to Broad and Snyder. He was the most honored academic student at David L. Landreth Elementary School the year of its closing in 1978 and continued to excel academically at Barrett Jr. High School under the distinct and fine tutelage of a cadre of excellent teachers such as Mr. Furia, Mrs. Pittman, Mrs. Chapman, Mrs. Griffin, Mrs. Kent, Mr. Shaw, Mr. Gregory, Mr. Moore, and Mr. Stevens. Mike Muhammad began politicizing the value of educational excellence at South Philadelphia High School as Class President three years in row while also dabbling in journalism and becoming Year Book Editor for the Class of 1984, Ben Farnese, Principal. Mike Muhammad also demonstrated his industrialism, determination, and commitment to achievement while working part-time after school as a mail clerk at the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia where he learned a tremendous amount of very valuable skills under the direct leadership and tutelage of the esteemed William Bodine Jr. Mike Muhammad was also involved, as a student, with various aspects of the initial stages and planning of the Philadelphia High School for International Affairs; now named the Bodine High School for International Affairs. As a High School student working at the World Affairs Council, Mike Muhammad had the opportunity to meet numerous political scholars and diplomats such as the Honorable Reverend Jesse Jackson and United States Secretary of State, Mr. Alexander Haig. With perfect attendance in High School and great academic success, Mike Muhammad went on to attend one of Pennsylvania's finest state Universities; Bloomsburg University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science with an Area of Concentration in Public Administration. Mike Muhammad began challenging himself to demonstrate the best qualities of leadership by joining the prestigious Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. (Lambda Alpha Chapter) under the tutelage and guidance of the late Dr. Jesse A. Bryan while also joining the Army National Guard (Company C 2nd Battalion 109th Infantry Brigade, Berwick PA.) as well as participating in the University's ROTC program amongst other university activities. Mike Muhammad completed his Basic and A.I.T. training with the split option; both at Ft. Benning Ga. during two separate college summer breaks, respectively. Mike Muhammad's leadership skills were becoming exceptionally refined as he earned the Prestigious Distinguished Honor Graduate Award and was invited to give the Commencement address to over three thousand graduating United States Army Infantry Trainees during the summer of 1987. In the Fall of 1987 Mike Muhammad did a Political Internship with the Legendary Consumer Advocate Max Weiner during Max's unsuccessful last bid to become an At Large City Council Member for the City of Philadelphia with the Consumer Party. Mike Muhammad learned tremendously about the value of being committed to the general public with this experience; he credits his internship coordinator, Mr. Lance Haver, with being the perfect example of sacrifice, commitment and dedication to a selfless cause for the purpose of a better society through fair, effective, and equal public policies. Mike Muhammad graduated from Bloomsburg University in the summer of 1988 and returned to the City of Philadelphia to further build upon what is now his life long legacy of dedicated and committed leadership, personal and professional achievement, and community and civic engagement. Mike Muhammad worked as a retail Sales Manager with Fayva Shoes, a Facility Coordinator at Building Better Families Homeless Shelter (Now Stenton Family Manor), a Private Elementary School Teacher at Cathedral of Faith Elementary School, and as a Counselor at Sleighton School for delinquent youth. Mike Muhammad’s passion for Sales and Entrepreneurship was developed as a sales associate with numerous organizations such as Cal Central Marketing, The Greater Philadelphia Black Pages and the McCafferty Auto Group of Langhorne Pa. Mike Muhammad continued to fulfill his industriousness by supplementing his income with entrepreneurial endeavors as he became an accomplished special events and wedding Photographer with Photo Posse Studios in the early 90's and as small business consultant in the late 90‘s. In the fall of 1988 Mike Muhammad was becoming affectionately know throughout the City of Philadelphia and other areas as Brother Michael, and he ultimately became Brother Michael X on April 23, 1989 at Muhammad’s Mosque No. 12 as a Registered Member of The Nation of Islam and was awarded the Sir Name Muhammad by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan in 1996 after the Great success of the Million Man March; Mike Muhammad had his name officially changed at that time and continued with his life long endeavors of Professional and Personal Achievements while continuing community and civic advocacy for the betterment of society as a whole. Mike Muhammad married his college sweetheart in 1990 and they're still happily married after being together for the past 24 years. Mike Muhammad and his wife have two exceptionally fine children that are academically advanced; one is on the Dean's List at St. John's University as a Sophmore at the tender age of 18, and the other is a Junior at one of Philadelphia’s Number 1 High Schools. Mike Muhammad is very protective of his family’s needs and rights of privacy and has determined to not expose them to the intrusive scrutiny of the media and expects that the media types will respect his wishes (Mike Muhammad does not intend to hesitate with otherwise personal visitations to professional organization for understandings of clarity). Mike Muhammad wrote a very concise book on Teaching Mathematics to Small Children entitled Count Your Blessings which he self published in 1996 and is currently working on a comprehensive curriculum package for Day Care Centers and Kindergarten classes. Additionally, Mike Muhammad has three other books near completion plus two stage plays and a Motion Picture Project he expects to initiate or sell to a major studio in 2010. Mike Muhammad has devoted a significant amount of time over the past five years to the development and rearing of his two children and has determined that "It is time to GET HIS ACHIEVEMENT ON!" "The only thing Mike Muhammad can honestly say that he knows of the word can't, is that it is an American English Language contraction of the two words can and not; and that it is probably used too often, by too many people, giving inaccurate descriptions of human possibilities." |
